“Dr. Ashanti’s story inspires me to nourish my son’s dreams and aspirations. I too, was born and raised in Dallas (Oak Cliff). My parents were there for me but they never pushed education or encouraged me to pursue a certain career. I chose, on my own, to be different and being different meant going to college and get a degree in education. I was in Kindergarten & I remember I told my teacher (Ms. Totus) that I was going to take her job because she wasn’t teaching me anything. I have accomplished my dreams now I have to make sure the cycle continues with my son. He loves animals. When he was younger he always carried some type of animal around with him. He was always quoting facts and researching animals. We frequently visit aquariums, zoos, and any museum that has animals. I have noticed in the past few months the spark in his eye is not as shiny as it was before, pertaining to his love for animals. After hearing Dr. Ashanti speak I realized it’s my duty as a parent to awaken that desire in him and encourage him to aspire to be great & reach for those goals he set.
